As the dust finally settles on the recently passed One Big Beautiful Tax Bill, solar developers and EPCs are taking stock of its implications for commercial solar pipelines. While a lower Investment Tax Credit (ITC) puts some projects at risk, it also sharpens the focus on high-quality projects—and those with strong economics and dependable delivery will lead the way in the years ahead.
At Parasol, we remain confident in solar’s long-term future because of its value and reliability. As energy demands across the U.S. surge, the Administration’s chosen energy strategy is expected to drive up wholesale electricity prices as much as 74% by 2035. Without a stronger push for renewables, commercial and residential energy costs as well as reliability will suffer.
In this challenging landscape, one thing is abundantly clear: Only those projects with clear economics and predictable, reliable execution will stay on track—especially as Treasury guidance evolves. Timely, dependable delivery of projects has never been more critical.
OBBB and the urgency of solar development now
Customers are expressing a rising sense of urgency to move forward with commercially viable solar projects, due to the following clean energy provisions of the new Tax Bill:
- To claim the ITC, commercial solar projects must begin construction by July 4, 2026, or be placed in service by December 31, 2027.
- Projects that start construction within 12 months must be placed in service within four years.
- Starting immediately, projects are subject to restrictions if “foreign entities of concern” are involved.
In light of these changes, developers are wisely prioritizing projects that can be built with US-manufactured products that are available now.
Can solar carports be installed quickly enough to meet the new ITC deadlines?
Solar carports and canopies are a smart way to utilize existing parking lots or roof space to generate on-site clean energy. For many solar projects, integrating these structures adds crucial capacity to reach clean energy goals. But are they the right kind of system to install, given the new ITC requirements?
While many solar carport products can add unnecessary complexity to a project, Parasol builds high-quality components and simplicity into every component, with flexibility for any solar panel type. Every Parasol product is readily available and proudly made in the USA with certified US steel, with no premium added. In fact, our Solflex product is a competitively priced kitted solution that arrives to the job site predrilled, preassembled and ready to install.
Our services team works hand-in-hand with EPC partners to ensure a seamless construction process, even in the most challenging environments, such as hospitals, port terminals, universities and corporate sites.
Standard Solar, with whom Parasol worked on the recent Port Newark Container Terminal in New Jersey, values the Parasol partnership because of the team’s deep expertise: “When you’re working with a parking canopy provider you’re not just buying steel, you’re buying their expertise and installation services,” said CJ Colavito, VP Engineering for Standard Solar. “Parasol provides better premium parts, with less execution risk.”
As new policies and tax rules reshape the commercial solar landscape, developers face new pressures—but also new opportunities. The timeline for securing ITC benefits is now firmly in place, and only the most execution-ready projects will succeed. In this environment, solar carports that offer both speed and certainty fit the bill.
At Parasol, we continue to work behind the scenes to introduce new product innovations and develop new features that we look forward to announcing soon. For more information, reach out to our team today.
